Trough Sink Cleaning

Q: What is a good product to use in the restroom trough type sink to get the mineral deposits (scum) removed?

A:   The first thing to remember is that what we are trying to remove (mineral deposits) is alkali in regards to pH.  Therefore, need to to neutralize with a product that has an acidic pH.  My favorite is Spartan Foamy Q&A.  It is acidic but also has degreasers for the scum and oil.  It is a registered degreaser. Spartan Foamy Q&A is available in  RTU (Ready-to-use, 12/QT/CS), Gallon (4GL/CS), 5 GL Pal and 55GL Drum.  Click here  for more information on Spartan Foamy Q&A.

Cleaning Carpet Where There is Food Residue

Q:  I am cleaning restaurant carpet that has never been cleaned in 3 years. I have a truck mount extraction system. What chemical do you recommend?

A:  Due to the greasy protein stains and food residues in this environment, we recommend a prespray called Relief Enzyme Prespray from DSC Products.  This product is particularly effective in restaurants.  It MUST be used according to directions to be effective.  This includes mixing the chemical with hot water and allowing for a 20-30 minute dwell time. This time will commit the enzyme to attack the residues.  Extracting too soon will have a negative affect on results.  Click here to learn more about this product.  Click here for other Carpet Care chemicals from Nichols.

Q: Do I need a UVI Stretch Film?

A: UVI additives can be expensive. If you plan to store the film outside for any length of time, you need a UVI film. Most UVI films will last for an average of 3-6 months. It requires high concentrations of UVI to guarantee a film to last 12 months, which can increase the cost significantly. A UVI Film that will last 9 months from September to May, could only last 3 months during June, July and August. A UVI film that will last 6-9 months in Canada, may only last 3 months in Florida. Some UVI's can protect the product, but they have limited use and will only last for a short period of time. The best protection for the product is an opaque film or bag. A trained sales rep can help you analyze your specific application needs.
