KEEPING GREEN BUILDINGS GREEN

With today's intense focus on designing, owning, and operating "green" facilities, thousands of environmentally preferable products (EPP) are being used to construct new green buildings or to renovate existing structures to make them more environmentally sustainable. Yet while there needs to be great interest in a building's initial environmental properties, there is often little thought given to its maintenance once the doors open. The result is a green building that is not maintained green.

Selecting the most appropriate construction materials and building systems can significantly affect indoor air quality (IAQ), resource conservation, and the protection of the environment. The same is true for cleaning products and equipment. Cleaning and maintenance strategies must take into account a building's environmental properties and must contribute to maintaining a sustainable environment.
