Cold and Flu Season Will Be Different This Year

Last winter, there were few cases of flu and other respiratory illnesses. We head into this winter filled with questions about what our flu season may look like, and still face-to-face with the threat of COVID-19. Be prepared to protect the people in your facility, no matter what this respiratory illness season brings.

The following tips can help you prevent the spread of colds and flu:

  • Use EPA-registered products approved to kill influenza to treat surfaces daily
  • Get vaccinated - everyone 6 months and older should get an annual flu vaccine
  • Wash your hands often and make hand sanitizing products available for all students, customers and staff
  • Send sick students, customers and employees home so they don't spread the virus

Surface Disinfection Protocols

  • Use EPA-registered products approved to kill influenza (check the product label or ask the manufacturer if you are unsure about influenza kill)
  • Disinfect classrooms, common areas, locker rooms, restrooms and food preparation areas daily
  • Disinfect high-touch surfaces in between daily cleans
  • In Classrooms and Common Areas
    • Implement an end-of-day deep clean. Disinfect all surfaces daily by using Clorox® Total 360® Sprayer to spray the Clorox® Total 360® Disinfectant Cleaner1
    • Disinfect in between daily deep cleans using an EPA-registered product approved to kill influenza (such as Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes)
    • Focus disinfection on the following high-touch areas: desks and table tops, chairs, door handles, cabinet/ drawer handles, light switches, shared classroom equipment, computer keyboards
  • In Food Preparation Areas
    • Implement an end-of-day deep clean. Disinfect all surfaces daily with the Clorox® Anywhere® Daily Disinfectant & Sanitizer. This food-contact safe disinfectant can be used on eating utensils, glassware, dishes and other surfaces that contact food without requiring a potable water rinse.
    • Focus disinfection on the following areas: food prep surfaces, food trays, faucets, refrigerators, microwaves, tabletops
  • In Restrooms and Locker Rooms
    • Implement an end-of-day deep clean. Disinfect all surfaces daily using the Clorox® Total 360® Sprayer to spray the Clorox® Total 360® Disinfectant Cleaner1
    • Disinfect in between daily deep cleans using an EPA-registered product approved to kill influenza (such as Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes) 
    • Focus disinfection on the following high-touch areas: light switches, sinks, toilets, faucets, door handles, faucets, countertops, stall partition
