Green Apple Day of Service 2016

Green Apple Day of Service takes place on September 24, 2016.  Green Apple Day of Service is a global movement to put all children in schools where they have clean and healthy air to breathe, where energy and resources are conserved, and where they an be inspired to dream of a brighter future.  Nichols is encouraging all K-12 districts across Michigan, Ohio and Indiana to participate this year.  #greenapple

Ask yourself these questions about your green cleaning program: Have you assessed where your cleaning program stands right now?  Do you have a Green Cleaning Policy in place?  Do you reference it and use it when talking with your suppliers or custodians? What is the percentage of green products you are using today?  Does the equipment you use meet the green cleaning equipment standards?  Do you have good cleaning practices in place?  Are things documented?  Do you provide at least annual training to your custodial team?

We will recognize the top three schools with a party, press release that will go out across the Midwest and other organizations involved in Green Apple Day and your story written and ready for you to publish in your school and community news.  We will help register all of this work on the mygreenapple.org website as well.

Here is the criteria:

  • Green Cleaning Policy in place
  • Highest percentage of green products being used in the following categories: skin care, paper products, trash liners and cleaning chemicals
  • Highest percentage of equipment that complies
  • Holding a training session for your custodial team around the September 24th date

We will help you do the assessment to fill in the blanks for the above criteria.

All of this feeds into other programs and certifications as well: Michigan Green Schools, U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon program, Green Seal (GS-42) and CIMS-GB Certifications as well.

Deadline to notify us of your participation is September 1st.  Questions or to sign-up contact Renae Hesselink, (231) 799-3517.
