Big News Coming Out of Michigan for Earth Day

This week we are celebrating with several of our customers who have made a major positive impact on the environment and their bottom line!  On Wednesday we celebrated the winners of the 3rd annual Michigan Battle of the Buildings which is a program of our local U.S. Green Building Council Chapter.  Collectively 475 buildings across Michigan which equated to 64 million square feet of commercial space reduced energy use and cost avoided $2.4 million in energy costs.  Many of our customers participated along with us in this Biggest Loser Competition and you can read the winner’s stories in the latest issue of the Grand Rapids Business Journal

We want to give a huge shout out to two of our customers however who not only placed highly in the Michigan Battle of the Buildings but also the American School & University Magazine 2017 Green Cleaning awards.

We were excited to celebrate with Western Michigan University who took 1st place in the Education building category for their Health and Human Services Building by reducing energy by 17.24%.  Western Michigan University also took the Grand Award in the ASU’s Green Cleaning 2017 award.  Two years ago their Building Custodial Services Team achieved Green Seal (GS-42) certification, the only higher education institution to achieve in the state of Michigan and only the fourth in the United States.  For those of you familiar with this certification, you know that certification also requires recertification every two years and they recently achieved recertification.  So there is much to celebrate at Western Michigan University for Earth Day!  Read their story

Our second shout out goes to the University of Michigan who also had two of their buildings place in the Michigan Battle of the Buildings 2016 competition.  University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center took 1st place in the Health/Hospital category with a 5.3% reduction in their energy usage and the Medical Sciences Research Building 3 took 1st place in the “other” building category with a 21.5% reduction.  The University of Michigan Housing custodial team also is being recognized by American School and University Magazine at the Silver level for their Green Cleaning program.   Read their story

We are proud to work with both of these great institutions of higher education and look forward to their achievements along with the rest of our customers when it comes to their triple bottom line efforts: economic, environmental and social.

We will continue to celebrate Earth Day next week  #earthmonth
