Nichols Corporate Headquarters and Distribution Center earns ENERGY STAR certification 2018

We’re excited to announce that we have achieved EPA Energy Star Certification again for 2018!  This means that our Norton Shores headquarters and warehouse use on average 35% less energy and generate 35% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than similar buildings across the nation.  When we applied a month or so ago our Energy Star Score was 84, you must be 75 or above to achieve certification. When we started our sustainability journey on our building back in 2007 our score was 74.  Over the years we have reduced our energy usage by more than 50% and have be recognized as a winner twice in the Michigan Battle of the Buildings Competition (2015 & 2016).

Thank you for being a part of our sustainability story by taking simple actions to cut energy waste – like turning off the lights in empty rooms and at night when everyone leaves, turning off your screens when you leave at night or for the weekend, noticing when energy is being wasted and report that to myself or Jim Rees.

Another bite of information – if we were using the same amount of energy today as we were back in 2007, at today’s cost of energy we would be spending about $25,000 annually more.  Yay – cost avoidance!

Next project will be to upgrade the lighting in our Norton Shores warehouse!

Here’s to another year of cutting energy waste, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and doing our part to protect the environment – together!   We will be sending out a press release and posting on our website and social media.  It is no small task to gain this achievement and we should be proud!
