Nichols and Energy Conservation

We just had to share! We are celebrating today that our Norton Shores Headquarters and Distribution Center reached an Energy Star score of 90! You might ask what that means? The 1 – 100 ENERGY STAR score is a free screening tool that helps you assess how your building is performing. It’ll help you identify which buildings in your portfolio to target for improvement or recognition. A score of 50 is the median. So if your building scores below 50, it means it’s performing worse than 50 percent of similar buildings nationwide, while a score above 50 means it’s performing better than 50 percent of its peers. And a score of 75 or higher means it’s a top performer and may be eligible for ENERGY STAR certification which we achieved in 2015.

The ENERGY STAR score provides a comprehensive snapshot of your building’s energy performance. It assesses the building’s physical assets, operations, and occupant behavior in a quick and easy-to-understand number. So we are performing better than 40% of similar buildings!

As one of the winners of the 2014 Michigan Battle of the Buildings and competing in 2015 and 2016 as well (as there is always room for improvement), if you are located in Michigan, we encourage you to join the 2016 Michigan Battle of the Buildings energy reduction completion.
