The Power of Strapping

Have you ever had products shifting around while in transit? Or stacks of merchandise not staying in place in the warehouse? In addition to the frustration of having to deal with the mess, you also risk damaging your items. It’s time for you to learn about the power of strapping. Perhaps you already do strapping, but are you using the right type for your application?

Strapping will help you combine, stabilize loads, contain items for shipment, fasten different items together, and reinforce loads. There are different kinds of strap that can be used depending on weight, size, and shape of the items that you are trying to band together. Nichols offers the following kinds: steel, polyester, polypropylene, and cord.

Steel Strapping

Steel strapping is the strongest and most demanding for heavy duty applications. It is a very reliable material and a great strap to contain heavy loads. A great example for its use is for containing bricks.

Poly is known for its ability to stretch. It is also split resistant and very flexible. There are two different types that are available: polyester and polypropylene. Polyester is the most common replacement for steel strapping as it has the ability to handle high tension. Polyester can be used for settling loads of lumber, for instance. Polypropylene stretches out and is more common for lighter duty applications. Some examples include bundling shirts and newspapers.

Cord is the least common type of strapping. It is usually used to contain loads in trucks, more specifically the back of trailers. Some benefits include not staining or rusting the product that its holding together and it is also easy to dispose of. Cord strapping is also used for lighter loads.

Strapping can have specialty add ons. You can have colored strapping and printed strapping. The more common colors are black, blue, yellow, green, white, and clear. Colored strapping works great when you are in need of labeling or categorizing large loads of product. Printed strapping can serve the same purpose – but you can go a step further by adding your logo.
